Yair Lapid, the Israeli Yesh Atid partys head
Israeli opposition politician Yair Lapid announces forming an unprecedented coalition gathering a whole host of allies aimed at dealing death to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahus political longevity.
The Yesh Atid partys head informed outgoing President Reuven Rivlin of uniting his allies in the coalition late on Wednesday, the Israeli regimes Haaretz newspaper reported.
The anti-Netanyahu camp also comprises the Yamina, Kahol Lavan, New Hope, Labor, Yisrael Beiteinu, Meretz, and United Arab List parties.
Many of the coalitions party bosses, meanwhile, circulated a picture, rated by some as "historic," that showed them gathering around and smiling meaningfully.
"I am honored to inform you that I have managed to form" a coalition, Lapid said in the announcement, saying he and Yaminas head, Naftali Bennet, had decided to act as prime minister on a rotational basis.
"It will respect its (the coalitions) opponents, and will do everything it can to unify and unite all parts of Israeli society," Lapid said in an apparent jab at Netanyahus divisive and hugely controversial ways.
Netanyahu has been premier for the past 12 years, earning the nickname as "magician" for managing to hold onto the post by hook or the crook.
His popularity has, however, suffered a deadly plunge among the Israelis, who have been holding regular rallies outside his residence for months on end to force him to resign.
The far-and-wide resentment is owed in part to Netanyahus indictment in a number of corruption cases as well as his mishandling of the Israeli regimes economy and the COVID-19 response. The Israeli regimes heavy defeat in a recent war that it launched on Gaza, has also given rise to serious doubt among Israelis about whether he could sustain the regimes illegal existence.
The Israeli regime has held four parliamentary elections just in the past two years, all of them inconclusive -- amid lack of confidence in Netanyahu and his allies.
Now, the new alliance could avert a fifth one.
As his last shot, the Israeli prime minister had proposed that he and other officials, including Bennet, take turns to act as the regimes premier.
